Long Tailed Duck

I was in Sag Harbor and spied this small flock of about ten ducks. They were  a species I hadn’t seen around here before. I sat on the Village Wharf and waited for them to get within camera range and took a few photos. I looked up the ducks and found out they were Long Tailed Ducks which come down from Northern Canada to winter over.

Flying Point

In the evenings I have been running down to Flying Point Beach and Mecox Bay to catch the evening light and play with my new Fujifilm X-E2 camera. I am enjoying shooting with the camera. The feel is like a traditional film rangefinder camera. The lens and sensor produce sharp images with good contrast and like Fuji films snappy rich colors. The camera has a panoramic feature that stitches several images together in the camera. In principle it is similar to the feature in I-phones.  Shooting in manual exposure and focus provides more consistent and better images in the panoramic mode. I hope you enjoy the photos.

Fujifilm X-E2

For Christmas I got a new camera. I wanted smoothing small and easy to carry around but didn’t want to give up quality. After searching and looking at mirror less camera I decided to go with the Fujifilm X-E2. The E2 is small and has very good interchangeable lens. I got out and took a few photos today the camera is setup like old film camera and is easy to use it takes a little getting use to the menus for your settings but I quickly got the hang of it. Below are a few photos taken with the camera. Non of the photos have been sharpened and the panoramic is stitched together in the camera. A minimum of processing was done in Lightroom and one photo used a film replication setting to mimic Fuji Velvia film.

Sand Dunes

A few days ago I had some time to walk around the dunes at Flying Point Beach in Water Mill. I had Sam my Duck Tolling Retriever with me. A close eye on the dog was needed for fear he would get into trouble or swim in the frigid waters. At one time he got himself trapped in a maze of fencing designed to hold sand on the dunes. I did manage to get a few photos, and had some fun converting them to black and white. Playing with the red filter adjustment in Silver Efex 2 made ordinary photos more dramatic. Below are a few photos from the day’s walk, hope you enjoy them.

Photos in the Snow

After a morning off shoveling snow I got a chance to take a few photos. After editing there were two photos worth sharing. The first is of pine trees on the farm behind my house the other is of the lighthouse at Montauk. I have never gotten good photo of the lighthouse with snow. The reason being by the time I get there the snow has mostly melted away and yesterday was no exception. However I was still able to get something worth while.

Windmills

For Christmas I posted a photo of the Water Mill windmill, which is a classic English style windmill. While we go through a deep freeze in most of the country, and some friends are missing the weather of golf season, I thought I would post the windmill from the National Golf Links of America. The windmill is a Dutch style windmill and an icon of one of the oldest golf course in America. There are only two Dutch style windmills on Long Island that I am aware of the other is on the campus of Stonybrook Southampton College.
